How does an alarm system actually work?
An alarm system is designed to detect intrusion – unauthorized entry – into a home or business. An alarm system is connected to a monitoring center that monitors the home or business 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The alarm system is connected to doors, windows, smoke detectors, among other sensor devices. The moment one of the sensor devices detects intrusion it triggers an audible alarm. The monitoring station will then attempt to contact the homeowner, the emergency contacts, and the emergency services.
What if I accidentally set off my alarm system?
Not a problem. It is not uncommon for most users to accidentally set off their alarm system after they have it installed. It usually takes a few days to get acquainted with the alarm system. When you accidentally set off the alarm system, the UL listed monitoring center is notified of an emergency and will attempt to contact you to verify the emergency. Simply provide the monitoring center professional with your verbal password, assure them you accidentally set off the alarm system, and they will be happy to cancel the false alarm.
If I am cooking and the fire alarm sounds, will the fire department immediately respond to the alarm?
No. Our smoke detectors are smoke, heat, and freeze sensors. That means they detect both smoke and drastic change in temperature. Remember, you are connected 24–hours a day to a UL listed monitoring center who will call and verify that you need emergency help. If you do not need their assistance, simply tell them there is no emergency and the fire department will not respond
